Essential Fatty Acids

A healthy balance of omega fatty acids is essential for health.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are the building blocks of cell membranes and have particularly important roles in maintaining optimal function of the skin, brain and immune system.

In the skin, both dietary and topical essential fatty acids (EFA)  have been shown to improve the composition of the dermis, resulting in improved hydration and reduced signs of ageing.

In the brain, EFAs are important for communication and signalling between and within neurons, resulting in improved mood, memory and cognitive function.

In immune cells, omega-3 fatty acids in particular have a potent anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting effect, therefore reducing inflammation and improving our ability to fight infections.

What many people don’t know is that polyphenols (therapeutically active components of fruits and vegetables) help to transport EFAs through the blood stream to their target cells.  Without polyphenols, fatty acids are useless.

Unfortunately most fish oils lack polyphenols.

When choosing a product to take orally, look for one with the whole spectrum of EFAs as well as a good amount of polyphenols.

UDO's 3-6-9 oil blend is a good option because it contains a combination vegan EFAs, some of which naturally contain polyphenols.  However, as there is no specific information regarding polyphenol content, it may not be the best option. This can be purchased online.

Hemp seed oil is another good option with a good blend of EFAs and naturally occurring polyphenols and vitamins from the cannabis sativa plant.  This can also be purchased online.

Balance Oil is a product that has been specifically formulated for the purpose of ensuring the right balance of EFAs, vitamin D and polyphenols that transport the fatty acids to where they are needed.  See below for more information and how to purchase.

Vegan Balance Oil

Balance oil was developed by Dr Paul Clayton, a scientist, medical pharmacologist, educator and medical advisor.  It contains a range of essential fatty acids and polyphenol extracts with scientifically proven anti-inflammatory benefits.  This combination of ingredients differentiates it from others on the market.  Another benefit is that it comes in either a fish oil or vegan algae oil base and you can choose from a range of natural flavours that neutralise the taste.

Balance oil is recommended for use alongside BiomeMD™ for added anti-inflammatory benefits.
