Anti-Wrinkle Injections are commonly used to reduce excessive movement of the facial muscles and soften lines. They involve the injection of a protein into wrinkle-forming muscles, resulting in weakness or paralysis of these muscles and wrinkles either disappear or are softened.
It's important to note that there are a number of anti-wrinkle injectable products available in Australia. Each product varies in its composition and how it works - that is, how effective it is, how long it lasts and what types of adverse effects you can expect.
BioAesthetics offers two products that have TGA-approval in Australia. For legal reasons, we will term these products - Product B and Product X.
Product B has a long safety record, long duration of action and reliable results, this is the product most commonly used in Australia. It produces reliable results with a good duration of action. However with repeated, high dose and frequent use over several years, it can produce a vaccine-like response. This means that the individual may become resistant to the product due to the development of antibodies that neutralise it. This usually happens after five years of regular use.
Product X has a long safety record and appears not to produce resistance with long-term use. The results are similar to that of Product B however some individuals may initially have a shorter duration of action which eventually becomes longer with regular use. Product X is better suited to those with immune disorders as these people are more likely to experience a vaccine effect with Product B. It can also be used in those who have developed a resistance to the effects of Product B or those who wish to prevent resistance.
Product B and X are of similar quality and are therefore the same price.
(There is another product with TGA-approval in Australia, which we will term, Product D. This is significantly cheaper to buy than Products B and X. Anecdotally, Product D appears to have more unpredictable results and unwanted effects. It is also associated with resistance with repeated use over several years. BioAesthetics does not use Product D.)
What is it used for:
- Frown lines
- Smile lines
- Forehead wrinkles
- Brow lift
- Lip lines
- Mouth lift

- migraines, teeth grinding, sweating and much, much more....
The procedure takes approximately 5-10 minutes. Ice or local anaesthetic can be applied to the treatment area.
Recovery : You can return to your usual activities immediately after the procedure.
The effects are seen within two weeks.
The results last 3-4 months..
Slight swelling, redness or bruising may last for a few days.
There is an increased risk of bruising if you are on the following:
- Fish Oil
- Green Tea
- Aspirin & Blood thinning medications
- Anti-inflammatory medications (eg Nurofen)
Both Product B and Product X have long safety records. Acute reactions are extremely rare and apart from the potential to develop resistance to Product B, any long-term effects are mainly related to the action of the product on the muscle.
It is best to avoid Product B six weeks before and six weeks after having a vaccination due to its potential immune-modulating activity.
Anti-wrinkle injections cannot be used in the following conditions:
Pregnancy or breast-feeding
Neuromuscular disorders : Myesthenia Gravis, Eaton-Lambert Syndrome
