Telehealth Consultations with Dr Agnes
Comprehensive care for women
You know your body has changed. You're not imagining it.
Perimenopause and beyond can be destabilising, frustrating and, at times, completely overwhelming. Multiple symptoms often appear simultaneously and rapidly, and are too easily dismissed as "just getting older."
Having experienced this transition myself while managing a busy workload and the external challenges that arise during mid life, I understand both the physical changes and the uncertainty that many women experience. I also understand how difficult it can be to find practical, evidence-based medical care that looks beyond treating one symptom at a time.
Over the past decade my clinical practice has evolved to focus on women's health, particularly perimenopause, menopause and the metabolic, hormonal and inflammatory conditions that commonly accompany this stage of life.
Menopause is more than declining hormones
While menopause hormone therapy is highly effective for many symptoms and plays an important role in the management of menopause, it is only one part of the picture.
The menopausal transition affects multiple body systems, including metabolic, endocrine, immune, neurological, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health. As hormone levels change, existing health conditions may emerge or worsen, and women often develop symptoms that appear unrelated but are driven by the same physiological processes.
Conditions I commonly see
My consultations usually include assessment and management of:
- Perimenopause and menopause
- Weight gain and difficulty losing weight
- Lipedema
- Fatigue and fatigue syndromes, including post-viral
- Brain fog and poor concentration
- Sleep disturbance
- Food intolerances
- Joint and muscle pain, including fibromyalgia
- Anxiety and low mood
- Hair loss and changes in texture
- Chronic inflammation and allergies, including mast cell activation (MCAS)
- Autoimmune conditions
- Skin concerns including rosacea, acne and accelerated skin ageing
Multiple symptoms interconnected
Women often present with several of these concerns at the same time, rather than a single isolated problem.
This is because many chronic conditions and symptoms are interconnected and driven or aggravated by factors that trigger pathological processes such as gut dysbiosis and inflammation.
Optimal outcomes are therefore achieved by systematically addressing these underlying pathologies, while simultaneously optimising the processes essential for repair and regeneration.
My aim is to identify what’s driving your health concerns and address them in a way that works with your body and lifestyle.
My Approach
Having experienced my own health challenges, I understand the frustrations and difficulties women face when seeking help. My goal is to make your experience dignified and uncomplicated, ensuring you are heard and your symptoms acknowledged and thoroughly assessed. I then provide recommendations the bring the greatest benefit, while minimising the cost and treatment burden. I therefore avoid fads, unproven, expensive or unnecessary tests, supplements, treatments, trackers, and gadgets. Instead, I will tailor a treatment plan and further guidance to address your needs using the safest and most effective health tools and strategies.
Every consultation begins with understanding your history, current symptoms, previous treatments and health goals.
Where appropriate, I review pathology and other investigations to identify the physiological processes most likely contributing to your symptoms. Rather than adding unnecessary treatments, my focus is on identifying the interventions most likely to rapidly address symptoms and make a difference in the long-term.
Depending on your needs, your management plan may include:
- Menopause hormone therapy
- Evidence-based non-hormonal medications and compounds
- Nutrition and dietary strategies
- Lifestyle interventions
- Nutritional supplementation where appropriate
- Further investigation or specialist referral when indicated
I take the time to explain complex concepts, how your symptoms relate to internal processes and how they can be addressed within your management plan. I then work with you to identify your priorities and goals and provide clear written guidelines to help you reach them.
As a member of the Australian Menopause Society, treatment recommendations in all domains, are based on current evidence, combined with my clinical experience to provide care that is tailored to your individual circumstances and achieves the desired results.
